coprime: two game-obsessed, winning-obsessed nerds (ships that I ship)

Canon: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: Rodney McKay/Radek Zelenka
Canon Level: Colleagues

The thing that makes Radek and Rodney so fun together is that Radek is one of the few people who can actually understand Rodney on a technical level. And he's not afraid to stand up to Rodney. McKay's brilliant, but I feel like someone challenging him in the areas of his expertise for reasons of scientific discovery can only lead to good things. And I think Radek would also enjoy the challenge of working with Rodney and after they solve whatever problem they were working on, they can relax and commiserate together.

Canon: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: Evan Lorne/Radek Zelenka
Canon Level: They've Probably Talked To Each Other At Some Point Or Another

I think this one has even less canon support than Lorne/Parrish, although at least both Lorne and Radek get a decent amount of (separate) screen time over the course of the series. Lorne and Zelenka play similar roles in the show, in that they're both the right hand man of man in charge of the military/science contingent. Lorne works in the background to help Sheppard by being steady and competent; Zelenka works in the background to help McKay by being sensible and confronting McKay when necessary. Their similar positions on Atlantis probably give them a similar viewpoint of life on Atlantis, and they can bond over what it's like to work for Sheppard and McKay. Neither has a very flashy personality, but that would probably make for a refreshing change after all the excitement that makes up the rest of their lives.

Fandom took about two minutes of onscreen interaction between these two and ran with it, creating a relatively popular pairing. And I am absolutely willing to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed SGA fandom's overactive imagination in this case. Lorne is a generally likable minor character; he's the guy in the background competently getting stuff done without a lot of fanfare and with a sense of humor. And the two minutes of interaction managed to include banter, excited geeking out, some interested questions about the source of geeking out, and mild protectiveness. Ramp up the interest and protectiveness, and you've basically got all the elements you need for a decent, cute romance fic.

I need to rewatch the episode at some point because I was cooking at the time and missed some stuff. But what I did catch was enjoyable. Slightly confusing due to missing some plot points, but enoyable.

Hee, oh SGA, you did not disappoint with your season premiere.

Favorite bits included: Spoilers )

In other news, I got my ears pierced on Monday. So all week, I've been remembering that fact randomly and then going, "Yay, pierced ears!" They look good too.

Man, SGA is just a black hole of a fandom. I circled around the event horizon for three years refusing to get sucked in, watched one episode successfully while knitting, and that was it. Three weeks later, I think I've finally got my brain back.

But! Atlantis is shiny and pretty and fun, so I'm not complaining about my brain being eaten. And if I could tell one thing to the fandom, it would be to stop writing ZPM out as ZedPM. It makes no sense to do so, and I twitch every time I read it.
