Ships that I Ship: Day 33: Lee/Gaara

Canon: Naruto
Pairing: Gaara/Rock Lee
Canon Level: They've Fought Against and Alongside Each Other

Gaara and Lee are a pairing that, on the outside, shouldn't really work. They're too different. Lee's grand enthusiasm and seeming never-ending optimism and Gaara's ruthless efficiency should have them clashing all the time both philosophically and with how they go about their lives day-to-day. But I think that clash is why they'd work well together. Lee's relentless cheer means he won't give up when things get tough, and Gaara needs someone he can believe in no matter what. For Lee, I think Gaara's intensity would be appealing. So many people don't take Lee seriously, but Gaara would. And their personal philosophies aren't that different. They both care deeply about protecting people; they just have very different ways of showing that desire.
