Epic Thing Update

Part 1 is now done and clocks in at just over 20k. I've gone over it slightly to change things to make more sense, but I'm afraid to look at it too much in case I find it's utterly horrible and nonsensical. I don't think it is, but I also acknowledge that I am completely lacking in objectivity towards this thing.

Anywho, onto Part 2! Which will probably be even longer but needs to get written because I adore two of the scenes I want in it, one of which may end up being the last scene of this part. So far I've got about a thousand words.

(And if I end up not writing Part 2 for some reason, there will probably be a very long, very angry rant about how much I hate the "shovel talk". Haaaaaaate so goddamned much.)

Does anyone actually do the shovel talk in real life? That's always my question about it. In fiction, it apparently is the go-to reaction of friends and family -- threaten someone and assume that a) the relationship is any of your business and b) the person in said relationship doesn't have the agency to stand up for themselves.

I mean, I automatically forgive Willow in BtVS for doing it because that was adorable and ridiculous and not-really-threatening and clearly a teenager playing out the "best friend" role as seen in popular culture.
