Dear Yuletide Author Letter
Hello Yuletide Author! Thank you very much for offering to write one of my teeny fandoms! I am actually very easy to please, and I am sure I will love whatever you write. I firmly believe that the best stories are the ones the author wants to write, so if you have an idea that doesn't match my optional details, go for it. If you'd like a bit more guidance (or a bit more explanation...) however, then read on.
Likes: I like gen, het, slash, and femslash. I like happy endings, hopeful endings, domestic fluff, romance, introspection, character studies, family, friendship, humor, plotty adventures, and lots of other things. This is in no way an exhaustive list.
Dislikes: I dislike rape, major character death, character bashing, infidelity, and mentor/mentee pairings. None of these are absolute dislikes, but there are a lot more stories I like that don't have these elements than there are stories I like with them.
Meh: I tend to skim sex scenes. Not always, but that's rare. I don't mind having some sex, but I would prefer something that isn't all sex.
Fandoms: Super Street Fighter IV
Optional Freeform Tag: Crack
Optional Details: I would enjoy something that pokes fun at this series. I spend a fair bit of time watching my boyfriend play this game, and consequently I spend a fair bit of time contemplating how little sense the Street Fighter universe makes. Maybe you could write something that takes place in that silly world or maybe something where the people playing are characters too or something completely different. I'd just like something to think about that I didn't make up myself while watching my boyfriend play this game.
So when I say I spend time contemplating how little sense the Street Fighter universe makes, I mean I sit there wondering how the same announcer ends up at all these random, hard to reach places (e.g. a volcano or a high-rise building under construction). And then I imagine that he's in this little flying box just offscreen, and whoever's behind this tournament can program the box to take him wherever the fight is. Also I imagine he's doing something else in that little box (exactly what varies) and occasionally remembers he's supposed to be announcing this fight, so he'll glance up from what he's doing and make some random comment based on the two seconds of fight he's seen. And this totally explains why all his comments are so repetitive.
Do you see what I mean when I say I'd appreciate something else to think about while I watch this game? That's only one example; I could go on and on if I wanted. I think something humorous would work really well for the way my mind already thinks about this game, but if you'd like to do something serious, I am sure I will enjoy it. Maybe you can convince me of the pathos of this world! The important thing is that it is a Street Fighter story that I didn't make up myself. If you do go the humor route, my likes/dislikes/meh go out the window, and instead anything can go.
Fandom: Le Superbe Orénoque | The Mighty Orinoco - Jules Verne
Characters: Jacques, Jeanne
Optional Freeform Tag: Post-Canon
Optional Genre: F/M
Optional Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Optional Details: I would really adore something about Jacques and Jeanne's life together after the book ends.
This is a pretty simple request. Jeanne is awesome, and her and Jacques' budding romance was adorable. I've always wondered what the two of them would be like together as a committed couple and how the circumstances of their initial friendship might (or might not) affect them. But mostly I just want Jacques and Jeanne somehow.
Fandom: L'Île mystérieuse | The Mysterious Island - Jules Verne
Characters: Bonadventure Pencroff, Tom Ayrton
Optional Genre: M/M
Optional Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Optional Details: I'm curious about the lives of the colonists, whether that before, during, or after their adventure on Lincoln Island. I picked Ayrton and Pencroff for characters because they're my favorites (by a very slight margin), but I would be completely happy with something about one of the other colonists (i.e. Cyrus, Gideon, Harbert, or Neb).
This is my favorite book, so I really would be so pleased with anything about Pencroff, Ayrton, Cyrus, Gideon, Harbert, and/or Neb. I greatly enjoyed the adventures of the colonists in the book and would enjoy more about what happened on Lincoln Island. I'm curious about what happened to them after they left the island and rejoined society. Or I'd enjoy reading some backstory for them. I have a fondness for slash with these characters, but would also adore keeping the relationship between them all as close as brothers like in the book.
Fandom: Poe - Harold Schechter
Character: Edgar Allan Poe
Optional Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Optional Details: I have a bit of a dream where somehow Poe and Jules Verne meet because Verne was a total Poe fanboy back in the day. I do realize Poe's early death makes this somewhat difficult, but maybe a fictional AU where he lives longer would work? Or if Verne doesn't tickle your fancy, maybe Poe could meet some other famous person of the day. Or he could see someone he befriended in the books again! Basically, I like the idea of Poe hanging out, being friends, and solving mysteries with other famous historical people.
This request is a little strange, I'm sorry. I'm a bit of a Verne fangirl (as you might guess from the two requests based on his novels), and ever since I saw this Hark! A Vagrant comic and realized that Verne wrote his own fanfic sequel ("An Antarctic Mystery") to Poe's "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket", the idea of these two meeting has been a happy idea for me. I do realize history makes that difficult as Poe died when Verne was around twenty, hence my suggestion of an AU where Poe lives longer. Or you could be more creative in figuring out how they meet.
But if you have no interest in having Verne meet Poe, then I totally understand. The thing I loved most about these books was the idea of Poe meeting and befriending (and then solving mysteries with) other famous persons of the day. So anything that has that going on will be awesome, whether it be someone he's already met in the books or someone completely new.
...I hope that, if you read all my ramblings, it hasn't scared you off. I really did mean what I said at the beginning of this letter though; I will love whatever you write.
