Dear Yuletide Author Letter

Hello, my Yuletide Author! I'm ridiculously easy to please and am willing to read just about anything, especially in the four fandoms I've requested this year. I'm sure I'll love whatever you write, so if you've already got an idea, go forth and write! The rest of this post is for if you'd like a bit more about my likes/dislikes.

Likes: I like gen, het, slash, and femslash. Backstory fic, introspective pieces, slice of life stories, and plotty adventures. Happy and hopeful endings, romance, friendship, family, humor, and minor characters. Mostly, I like things that make me smile.

Dislikes: I'm not fond of character death, character bashing, rape, infidelity, mentor/mentee pairings, and unremitting angst. None of these are absolute dislikes, but they're pretty close.

Meh: I generally skim over graphic sex scenes. There are some well-written PWPs I find compelling and eagerly read every word, but for the most part I skim. I have no objections to having sex written for me, but I'd appreciate it if it wasn't all sex.

Jennifer Estep - Karma Girl
Characters: Any
Optional Details: I'd like anything that centers around the good gals/guys in this series. Action/adventure, quiet introspection, romance, or even wacky shenanigans would be welcome! Maybe an adventure with the Fearless Five or a quiet moment with Carmen and Sam or even something about one of the minor characters like Granny Cane or Kyle Quick. I've read all three books in the series, so feel free to use stuff from them if you'd like to.

I ate these books up when I read them. I love romance, I love superheroes, and so there was pretty much no way I wouldn't love how delightfully Jennifer Estep combined the two. There's action! adventure! romance! humor! I think Estep manages a good balance between light-hearted, occasionally tongue-in-cheek fun while still putting her heroines and heroes into serious danger. Basically, I find this world delightful to lose myself in for a couple hours and would love anything that lets me do that again. Estep's website has a list of the major landmarks in Bigtime for quick reference if needed.

Jules Verne - The Mysterious Island
Characters: Ayrton, Pencroff
Optional Details: I'm curious about the lives of the colonists, whether that before, during, or after their adventure on Lincoln Island. I picked Ayrton and Pencroff for characters because they're my favorites (by a very slight margin), but I would be completely happy with something about one of the other colonists.

This is my favorite book, so I'll love anything that lets me revisit the colonists. I give you permission to write about Cyrus Smith, Gideon Spilett, Harbert, or Ned if you like them better than Ayrton and Pencroff. The only reason I didn't pick "any" for the characters is because I'm not too interested in Captain Nemo or Bob Harvey. I have a fondness for slash with these characters, but would also adore keeping the relationship between them all as close as brothers like in the book.

Monsoon Wedding
Characters: any
Optional Details: I'm really curious about what's happened to the characters after the end of the movie. How is married life working out for Aditi and Hermant? Did Ria get to go to America to study? Is Dubey's mother now pushing Alice to provide her with grandbabies? Or does one of the other characters have a fascinating story? I'd love to know more about (nearly) anyone from the movie. My only exceptions are Tej Puri and Vikram, both of whom I find unpleasant.

I feel a bit awkward saying "I'd like a story about anyone from the movie! Except these two!" but I hope that's okay. I don't want a story to focus on Tej Puri and Vikram because it would then also focus on some of by biggest dislikes (rape of a child and infidelity, respectively). But when I say anyone else, I really do mean anyone. If the characters in the details don't interest you, there's Varun or Lalit or Pimmi or Aliyah or Ayesha or Rahul. You could even chose to write something about Dubey's three employees or someone else I've forgotten. I love the message of family this movie has and how crazy a large family can be and how strong (in their own way) all the characters are.

Owly
Characters: any
Optional Details: I'd like something that could be another bit of canon for this comic. I love how light-hearted and cute this comic is and how all the characters are friends who work together to help each other. Maybe you could tell me what winter is like in the forest for Owly and his friends, or maybe tell me about an adventure (either real or make-believe) that Owly and his friends have.

Owly is, in my opinion, the most adorable comic in existence. And this year someone who is not me offered to write it! If this is the fandom you matched me on, Andy Runton's website has lots of Owly bonus stuff to get inspiration from. If you want to write a winter story for Owly and friends, there is no need to make it specifically a Christmas story. There are lots of Christmas-y things on tv for December if I want. I just find the idea of Owly wearing a little scarf and hat and making a snowball to be charming.
