It's always hard for me to judge my podficcing efforts, so looking back on what I've done this year is interesting. For some basic stats, I posted 32 audioworks to AO3 in 2025, and my podfic spreadsheet says I made 17.5 hours of audio. Of those 32 works, 13 were of my own fics & 4 were collaborations of some sort. Most of the pods for fics by other people were done for either Voiceteam or Voiceteam Mystery Box (the two podfic-centric events I participated in last year), which I knew but it's sort of startling to look back ad see.

The majority of my podficcing efforts that weren't either my fics or VT/VTMB focused on long pods! I actually at first forgot that I finished my first long pod, I Thought You Were Blind, in June. But I'm super proud of what I did! 9.5 hours longs, and I kept up a weekly posting schedule for almost a year to get it complete. (Archive.org going down sometimes prevented me from updating.) I feel like I really managed to find a rhythm with my workflow with this pod—because I knew what I was doing next and also had a reason to record regularly, I think it really helped me to find how I like to do things.

It was in the spring while working on this pod that I switched to a true punch-and-roll style for recording, and oh man I love it. I don't think my current work flow would have worked for me before, I needed to go through growth in getting more comfortable speaking before I could get confident with doing a take and moving on. But I am so, so glad I finally looked into how to do punch-and-roll in GarageBand because it makes podding so much more enjoyable for me. I just get the fun of reading and don't have to agonize over which take anymore!

Doing ITYWB also taught me that I enjoying doing long pods. The uploading process is soooo much simpler when I'm just updating in a couple places and not having to start new to make new posts constantly. Which explains why the majority of my other-people's-fics pods are for events, because I spent the year working on 3 pods I considered long pods: ITYWB (9.5 hours), Epistaxis Anime (3.5 hours), and The Place You Call Home (1.25 hours). And I've got my next 3 long pods chosen, and I'm looking forward to getting into them. ^^

I don't entirely know where I'm going with this. I learned a lot about how I like to make podfics and about my own style this past year. I sort of feel like I haven't done a lot, when I look at posting different works, but then I look at my long pods and I'm really happy about what I've done. I'm hoping in 2026 to continue my momentum and not being afraid to try new things if I think they look fun. It might be nice to do some more random, shorter pods, but I can't say whether or not that will happen. I want to try to pod according to my whims, with whatever looks fun to do in the moment!

comments

I'm making this post so I can add image screenshots and explanations without needing to have large images in a comment. This is specifically in response to OTW claiming that complaints about how feeds can have issues is something for the people relying on those feeds to figure out and fix individually and that it is not an issue-at-large for everyone subscribed to the feed.

So I thought I'd show my screenshots! Images and descriptions under the cut.

( RSS feeds can be weird and unreliable in unpredictable ways )

It's insulting every time OTW insists that people bringing up issues with RSS feeds don't know what they're talking about. Feeds can have issues. They're nice, but they're not reliable. In this case, ao3_news_feed hiccuped and for some reason now the 5 most recent posts are being displayed out of order on the Reading Page of everyone subscribed to it. I find it especially insulting that OTW keeps insinuating that the only reason someone would have an issue with an RSS feed is because of either their own ignorance ("Additionally, some who expressed misgivings about feed function might not be accustomed to their functions via Dreamwidth. We recommend fans subscribe to the following feed to get some familiarity with feed functionality.") or their own incompetence ("With the feed being displayed without issues on its own page, I would suspect it to be a DW issue - some skins have bugs that mess with the display.").

Edited to add: I'm leaving the screenshots as-is so that it's very clear this is exactly what I'm seeing on my Reading Page. Scans_Daily and FandomCalendar just happen to be the two communities whose public posts surround this fiasco on my Reading Page.

comments

Hi, Yuletide Author!

I'm coprime over on AO3. (I'm also happy to receive treats and have my settings on AO3 set so I can receive them, if that's a question anyone had.)

Thank you so much for writing for me! I'm so excited to see your story and I'm already sure I'll love it because it'll be a story in one of my beloved, tiny fandoms. I say every year that the best story is a story the writer is excited to write, so if you already have an idea you want to write, go for it!
I took screenshots of the end of the game when it uses the Wingdings font and translated the Wingdings as best I could. A lot of the text is gibberish, but not all of it is. There is also a scene earlier in the game (during Pixel Girl's date with Piecea) where a fish says "Is this she who will destroy our world?" in Wingdings but I don't have a screenshot of that. I'm posting this as a note to myself for my own reference.

( Five Screenshots Here, Spoilers for the End of the Game )

comments

So I ordered a Nintendo Switch back in March and it finally came in at the beginning of June, so I've been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons pretty much non-stop since then. And I want to talk about my island but my friend is Switch-less, so here we are.

( Ramblings Probably No One Cares About )

I might try to make this a daily thing, but we'll see I suppose.

comments

So the Spouse and I are both huge fans of Clank!, which is a super fun deck-builder dungeon exploration game with a push-your-luck element and sense of humor. Getting him Clank! Legacy for Christmas was a no-brainer, and the actual risk was that we'd both gotten it for each other. We started playing this weekend and have so far loved it. The campaigns are long, somewhere in the realm of two and a half to three hours each, because we're having too much fun doing as much as we can each game.

The game's been a delight so far. I'm going to put the rest of my comments, including some remarks about our individual campaigns, because I believe anyone thinking about playing this should go in as spoiler-free as possible. A lot of the delight has come from discovering different things in the game, and I don't want to spoil someone else's potential playthrough.

( The Spoiler Zone )

I'm going to stop there as anything else I'd want to say would be very much specific spoilers, as opposed to the more general game play ones so far.

comments

Boy, that sure was a movie? It wasn't bad necessarily, but it wasn't really good either. It wasn't helped by the fact that once I placed the dad as being voiced by Nicolas Cage and the love interest as being voiced by Ryan Reynolds, all I could hear was the actor, not the character. And my default reaction to Nicolas Cage is a sort of genial "Good on you for getting some work," so that was a weird vibe. Still teared up when ( Read more... )

So eh, one more animated movie knocked off the list of animated movies I should probably watch for trivia purposes, but the best I can say is that it could have been worse.

...

...Okay, no, I wrote this all and then started re-watching Ouran High School Host Club, and I'm changing my opinion of The Croods. Ouran made me laugh five minutes into the first episode, and I'm not sure I laughed once during The Croods. I cannot pick a favorite character in Ouran (I can pick two if forced, but I really do adore all of the main cast.), whereas for The Croods if forced to pick I guess I'd go with Sandy? The mostly feral baby who can only growl?

The differences are striking and not at all in The Croods favor! I can now say I definitely did not like The Croods.

comments

Finally watched this movie! Not really feeling complete sentences at the moment!

-Liked Scott & Cassie. Thought they were adorable & great together.

-Liked Luis! He's great two, along with the other two dudes in the company who aren't Scott.

-Didn't really like how Hank & Hope treated Scott in the first half of the movie. Like, I didn't really think he'd done that much wrong? On the other hand, don't really remember much of the first Ant-Man or Civil War because...

-...Did not see any chemistry between Scott & Hope, like, at all and had completely forgotten that was apparently a thing in the first movie. In my head, it was a gen movie with 0 romantic plot elements and based on this movie, that is super not accurate.

-Was less on board with the humor than I thought I'd be. Remember enjoying the first movie, but this one a lot of the humor felt...inappropriately timed, I guess? So I didn't dislike the jokes but they didn't land for me either because of "Why...are we doing this now?"

( Spoilers )

comments

So May 10th was my 1-year anniversary in Pokemon Go, and I wanted to look back at how far I've come, so I noted down all the stats I could about my PoGo journey so far.

( I expect this to be of no interest to anyone other than me. )

For a mostly casual player, I think I'm doing pretty good! (My personal litmus test for defining casual vs. serious is how involved someone is in the local Discord/FB/etc. PoGo scene.) I like what all the walking has done for my mental and physical health. Husband & I will frequently play together, so that makes for a fun, casual date. I have my own personal goals in the game, mostly that I want to fill in every circle in my Pokedex, so I still have goals to work towards. I try not to get too caught up in keeping a full living dex, although sometimes that is tough. I also struggle with evolving shinies because Shellder was one of the first shinies I caught and I was so excited to get a bright orange Cloyster, and instead I ended up with something almost identical to regular Cloyster. It was a letdown! What if other shinies are also letdowns!

comments

I've been watching Yakitate!! Japan recently and am finally on the home stretch (Nine episodes left!), and I love it in all its ridiculous glory--Bring on the Iron Chef references! Bring on the extended Detective Conan reference and the episode that's just a twenty-five minute Naruto parody! Bring on the puns that I don't really get! Bring on every appearance of Kid, the most American of Americans!

I am here for the second ending, a.k.a. the best ending ever. I am here for Pierrot, the bestest clown ever and ( spoilers for the end of Pierrot's story. )

I am here for Kazuma calling Kuroyanagi and Pierrot "old ma--er, old pal!" every. single. time. he addresses them. I am here for Monica and Kuwabara's who-will-flinch-first, nearly naked romance. I am here for the surprise yakuza subplot!

But I am not sure I can buy that Austria is super famous for its jams and that most Austrian of jam doughnuts, the Berliner.

comments

Pokemon Go is tough during winter. I had a stretch of days while I was sick and a stretch of days where it was far too cold to be outside (I need it to be, like, at least 20°F/-7°C to go out, and instead it was -15°F/-26°C.) and several stretches of days where everything is snowy and/or icy. I could go walk around an indoor mall, but that is not nearly as enjoyable as being outdoors for me. There have been some nice days though! And I managed to get a shiny Lugia from the 7-day research box and a shiny Luvdisc from the Valentine's day event.

I've started listening to podfics and audiobooks while I drive or play Pokemon Go, which is pretty fun too. The current audiobook I'm listening to is sort of hilarious and frustrating. The hero and heroine are delightful together, but the conflict comes from the hero's secret plot for the heroine that she doesn't know about, and I just do not get why he cannot sit down with her and explain what the heck he's doing. Mind, he hasn't explained to the reader either what he's doing because halfway through this book, his plan seems to be:

Step 1: Get a wife.
Step 2: Do not fuck your wife despite the fact that you both want to do it.
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Your family is saved! From some danger you have as yet to explain!

So I guess I'll see how this all pans out eventually, but I do not have high expectations.

I've also been getting into zines lately, which is somewhat odd for me because I...don't really buy fandom-related merch? Like, I think it's neat and I like seeing it and I get why other people like, but I don't want any for myself. Except now I've bought one, pre-ordered two more, and am thinking about getting a couple others. The one I bought and received gave me a lovely moment where the art worked together, so it inspired to buy the other two to try to recapture that moment. One of the two is like two months delayed at this point though, so I suppose I'm also learning about the potential pitfalls of zines. I did think it would probably be delayed even before ordering though because the schedule had it shipping the week before Christmas, which seemed destined for delays even if zero of the people involved celebrate Christmas. The other is on schedule as far as I know, so. It is an adventure!

comments
