Doctor Who
I found myself sans internet and tv last night and went, "Hmm, I seem to have an evening free and eight hours of Doctor Who on my computer. Sounds like a plan!"
So, first impression, I really like Ten. I still like Nine loads too, but I was slightly worried David Tennant wouldn't live up to expectations after Christopher Eccleston. I'm liking Rose more this season (not that I disliked her before, but...). She seems more able to take the aliens and weird things in stride, and as a result her empathy and smarts shine through more.
In a bit of shallowness, David Tennant is really hot in glasses.
I noticed some themes running through the episodes. One is being stranded because the TARDIS is gone or doesn't work. It's happened in three episodes so far, which just seems like a lot. Another is how the Doctor is ultimately alone because he lives longer than everyone else and focusing on his personal grief at losing people (as opposed to Nine who focused more on the grief of having lost his planet and people). And then there's Rose, who's having to reexamine her life. Between Reinette and Sarah Jane, Rose is getting a good wake-up call about what life will be like when the Doctor eventually leaves her.
Oh man, that was a great send-off for Mickey though. He's probably my most beloved character of the show, and I like that he's got a chance to be happy, find himself, get his gran back, and all that great stuff. Oddly, IMDB has Mickey listed as being in the last four episodes of the season. But that's probably because he's a regular cast member and the episodes haven't aired yet, so I probably shouldn't get my hopes up.
"The Girl in the Fireplace" nearly made me cry. Poor Reinette, left perpetually waiting. Also teared up at K-9's goodbye, but I was really glad he was okay at the end. He was so adorable!
But mostly my reaction can be summed up by "Eee, Mickey! Eee, Ten! Eee, Rose!" in that order.
