The Croods: A Movie That I Have Now Seen

Boy, that sure was a movie? It wasn't bad necessarily, but it wasn't really good either. It wasn't helped by the fact that once I placed the dad as being voiced by Nicolas Cage and the love interest as being voiced by Ryan Reynolds, all I could hear was the actor, not the character. And my default reaction to Nicolas Cage is a sort of genial "Good on you for getting some work," so that was a weird vibe. Still teared up when it looked like Nicolas Cage had died even though I knew he hadn't because this movie, much like the cavemen in it, has never had an idea in its life. So eh, one more animated movie knocked off the list of animated movies I should probably watch for trivia purposes, but the best I can say is that it could have been worse.

...Okay, no, I wrote this all and then started re-watching Ouran High School Host Club, and I'm changing my opinion of The Croods. Ouran made me laugh five minutes into the first episode, and I'm not sure I laughed once during The Croods. I cannot pick a favorite character in Ouran (I can pick two if forced, but I really do adore all of the main cast.), whereas for The Croods if forced to pick I guess I'd go with Sandy? The mostly feral baby who can only growl?

The differences are striking and not at all in The Croods favor! I can now say I definitely did not like The Croods.
